Day 20 - Going to a Concert Alone

Going to a concert might not seem like self-love, but it absolutely is—and here’s why:

For me, getting out of the house is a challenge. Mental freeze makes even the simplest tasks—getting up, getting ready, and leaving—feel impossible. Add in the fact that I’ve been sober for a year and a half after 24 years as a functioning alcoholic, and being at a bar isn’t exactly my comfort zone.

But tonight, I made it happen. I pushed through to see my friend’s band, The Photo Atlas, play their first show in 10 years. This isn’t just about seeing a concert; it’s about reclaiming joy, pushing past anxiety, and proving to myself that I can still experience the things I love without needing alcohol as a crutch.

Going to a concert is self-love because it’s about connection, finding joy in the moment, and reminding yourself that you’re capable of doing hard things. Even if it takes effort, these moments are worth it.
